Should Free Speech Be Limitless ?
Before talking about free speech and free speech rights, let's consider some points:
Is it considered fair to offend or hurt a normal citizen and disturb his life by stepping on his rights to a dignified and calm life by exercising your so-called free Speech ? We all agree that free speech is a sacred' right, but if you take a step back and rethink it, you will find that there are many ways to exercise your free speech right, and there is no need to go, for example, and face a woman with curly green hair and tell her, You are a green curly hair goblin who have no place in our civilised society! You could have, for example, created a Facebook group of people who hate curly green hair and enjoyed talking with such like-minded people without offending anyone, and at the end of the day, everyone is happy! Wait a second. Imagine that woman is already in a great depression and is already considering suicide, and her only joy in life is her 'green curly hair. If you took away her last joy, did you perhaps indirectly injure or murder someone?
You often hear that being extremist and extremism are bad (good for no one), and probably you and I both agree that they aren't good at all! But did you ever consider that this golden rule might apply to everything, even free speech?
Yeah, being extreme in your free speech right by criticising (the hard way) what other people like or what other people consider holy by making fun of their action or by defiling and crossing what they consider their red lines is just doing more bad than good (I don't think there is any good here). You could have taken a step back and respected other people's beliefs and lives while defending your point of view without hurting other people or leading to hatred and conflicts.
Let's say you believe they are wrong and you are right. Rather than offending other people and creating hatred, you could do talks or make speeches on why you think you are right and why people should take you as a role model they should follow, unless you want to create buzz and get people's attention by taking controversial actions.
You don't agree ?, i will take a step back and lets say that free speech no matter how and no matter where it is its good and should be always limitless, let me remind you of something : there is the good and the greater good moreover there is evil and the greater evil and that's life or lets say this is how the world work and will always work moreover there is some problems where there is no solution in between and sometimes you have to abandon the good for the greater good, if one day or in some case that free speech is considered a great threat for the existence of a country or might inflict some bad consequence i believe that that country no matter how much it value 'free speech' it will sacrifice this small good that is in those circumstances might be called evil for the greater good of that nation, well logically a well functioning country won't sacrifice its peace and its citizens livelihood and happiness (those which are millions) for the enjoyment of a single citizen (his free speech right), i think its more practical to shutting up the mouth of one person than calming down a widespread riots, its the majority (if democracy) and the benefits (universal) that always govern the world.
* A real example: there are many atheists that are living normally with other religious people and everyone is minding their own business; it won't affect that atheist if that person believes in god, Buddha, or the devil as long as everyone is minding their own business. But you still sometimes find someone who calls himself an atheist who will go out of the norm and rather than enjoy his life, he will go waste his money on a book or an artefact of a religion he doesn't believe in (or that's what he says) in order to go to a public gathering of the said religion to defile that book or that artefact as him practising his free speech rights. If you analyse this again and again, you will find that:
1. He didn't prove any point of view, and he is just offending people and creating unrest.
2: This is more likely for his selfish enjoyment; he is spoiling the day of a whole community.
3: He is creating hatred.
4: This is more like racism and discrimination against other people's views and beliefs.
5: He is stepping on other people's freedom of beliefs (their rights) as a part of his right (freedom of speech), but if you look carefully, this is just an act of aggression against other people.
It's obvious that nothing should be extreme, not even freedoms, or there won't be rules and the world will be lawless.
